2008-2009 NBIAA Rules

F.I.B.A. rules will be used unless special playing rules are put forth by the NBIAA.   In this case the NBIAA rules will take precedence over any other rules.

NBIAA Modifications:

1. Players - There is no limit to the number of players that may be dressed for a game.

2. There shall be intervals of play of one (1) minute between the first and second period and  between the third and fourth period and before each extra period.

3. There shall be a half-time interval of ten (10) minutes.

4. A team shall have ten (10) seconds to move the ball from its back court to their front court.

5.  A shot clock violation shall occur if the shot does not hit the rim within thirty (30)seconds.

 6. The NBIAA game ball shall be the Spalding TF-1000. (BB1030 - Men and BB1031 - Female)

Note: 2008 FIBA Rule Changes

All below-mentioned rules will come into effect as of 1st October 2008, i.e. after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Art. 4.3 Uniforms The provision that T-shirts may be worn by players under their game uniforms is not valid anymore.

Art. 25.2.3 Player falling on the floor It is legal when a player falls and slides on the floor while holding the ball.

Art. 28.1.3 Ball goes into teams frontcourt The ball goes to the teams frontcourt when, during the dribble from backcourt to frontcourt, both feet of the dribbler and the ball are in contact with the frontcourt.

Art. 30.1.2 Ball returned to the backcourt It will not be a violation anymore if a player, who jumps from his frontcourt, establishes a new team control while still airborne and then lands in his teams backcourt.

Art. 31 Goaltending and interference If a player reaches through the basket from below and touches the ball, it is an interference (and not a simple violation) with all the relevant rule consequences.

Art. 36.1.4 Unsportsmanlike foul If a defensive player causes contact with an opponent from behind or laterally in an attempt to stop a fast break and there is no opponent between the offensive player and the opponents basket, then the contact shall be judged to be unsportsmanlike.

Art. 38.3.1 Technical foul A technical foul can be called on a player for excessive swinging of elbows (without contact).

Modification from FIBA for NBIAA games:

The modification is:

With the BNB and NBIAA modifications of ONE MINUTE between each of the first and second AND third and fourth quarters there is now to be a first horn at 50 seconds and a second horn at 60 seconds. The players are to commence their return to the court with the sounding of the 50 second horn so that play may resume with the sounding of the 60 second horn.

Rationale:

1) This procedure is the consistent with the procedure related to FIBA time-outs, which have the identical time frames.

2) As in past seasons, it is to be expected that coachs will return their players to the court at the sounding of the 50 second horn ( or soon thereafter  ) AND officials will demonstrate reasonable understanding in the procedure.

Did you know that the record for most points scored by a boy in a high school basketball game is 135, set by Danny Heater of Burnsville, West Virginia in 1960?...
